FAQ

General

My existing floors are _______. Will Cling work?

Just as long as the existing floors are adhered firmly to the ground, Cling will work on vinyl, linoleum, tile, laminate, marble and ceramic tile.

If you have grout lines that are ¼” wide or less, Cling would be a great fit with no extra steps.

If your existing floors are plywood or cement, you would need to apply a sealer.

We do not recommend installing over OSB plywood.

My existing floors have grout lines. Will Cling work?

If the grout lines are ¼” wide or less, then Cling would be a great fit.

If the grout lines are bigger than ¼” wide, we recommend to fill and patch the grout lines. Then cover it with a sealer.

I have concrete floors. Will Cling work?

Cling needs a nonporous surface for the patented backing to suction to the existing surface. Because concrete is porous, we recommend you seal the area to create a nonporous surface. We recommend you use Walkol PU280 sealer and we’ve had a smaller 1-gallon container made available for purchase here.

Can I use Cling on textured wall/drywall?

We highly recommend ordering a sample first to see how it adheres to the wall. If it holds firmly, then you should be good.

Cling needs a nonporous surface for the patented backing to suction to the existing surface. As long as your wall is smooth and clean from any debris, Cling should work on the wall. We also do have a heavy duty double sided tape to use along with it for a stronger hold.

How much does a Cling box weigh?

A full box is about 35 pounds.

Can I use Cling in an RV, van, bus or boat?

If weather has drastic temperature changes, there could be expansion and contraction. Fortunately, our product resists expansion and contraction better than other vinyls on the market. However, there is always a small chance that extreme temperatures could cause slight changes.

My existing tiles have asbestos. Can I still use Cling?

Fortunately, if your existing tiles are adhered firmly, Cling will be perfect as they encapsulate asbestos.

I want to use Cling in a heavy traffic area. Will it hold up?

Cling is a 3mm/12Mil product – this means it’s adequate for light commercial environments and absolutely durable enough for residential living (kitchen, living room, laundry room etc.).

Is Cling pet friendly?

It is definitely pet friendly in that the flooring has a high resistance to scratch and wear.

What’s the difference between Cling LVT and Rigid Core LVT?

Each flooring type has strengths and weaknesses. Here’s a quick snapshot comparing them.

Installing Cling

Do I lay the planks parallel or perpendicular to the doorway?

That is a matter of preference of design. Works either way.

How do you cut Cling?

A utility knife or a pair of commercial grade scissors is all you need. Using the utility knife, you just need to score across the tile a couple times, bend the piece back, and snap it forward to break off.

How long does Cling need to set before using them?

There is actually no setting time. Install Cling over your existing floors and you can walk on them right away.

Walls

Can I use Cling on a wall/drywall?

Yes, most of the time.

Cling needs a smooth and nonporous surface for the patented backing to suction to the surface. As long as your wall is smooth and clean from any debris, Cling should work on most painted or drywall walls.

How can I know whether it will work on my wall/drywall?

We highly recommend ordering a sample first to see how it adheres to the wall surface. If it holds firmly for a few days, then you should be good.

If it falls off before a few days, you may need to clean the wall using a clean cloth and a household cleaner. After cleaning, wipe the wall with a clean damp cloth to remove any residue from the wall and let dry. Reapply the Cling to the clean dry wall and if it holds for a few days, you should be good.

Again, the key is to perform a bond test over a few or more days to confirm suitability.

Can I use Cling on a textured wall?

There are several ways to enable Cling to work on walls that are not smooth. It is up to you to decide if you are up to the challenge of preparing the wall.

Can I use Cling on a wallpapered wall?

Yes, with proper surface preparation, this can work fine.

There are several ways to enable Cling to work on wallpapered walls. It is up to you to decide if and how you want to prepare those walls.

Generally speaking, it is usually best to remove the wallpaper.

For situations where it is not easy or practical to remove the wallpaper, consider applying wallpaper lining paper. The lining paper will provide a smooth surface for the Cling to adhere to.

Another option is to apply drywall compound to smooth the surface.  For more information click here.

Maintenance

What’s the best way to clean Cling?

When cleaning, you can use just about anything with a fairly neutral pH. Swiffer is a common method.

Can I use a non-skid rug pad on top of Cling?

Most non-skid rug pads are made of rubber and thus have a chemical reaction with vinyl flooring. Our products would have a similar reaction. If you’d like to use a rug pad, make sure it’s not made of rubber. RUGPADUSA has multiple options.

Removing Cling

Can you remove Cling without damaging the existing wall/floor?

Cling is designed with a patented backing that removes the need for additional adhesive. When it comes to removal, the worst you may have is a small piece of our foam backing leftover here or there. This pulls up very easily. However, there is a chance that when these are removed, they could pry up what they’re stuck to if bubbles exist in the wall/paint or if the flooring underneath was not properly installed.

Is Cling renter friendly? Is it removable?

Cling is very renter friendly! It takes a little muscle, but Cling is definitely removable thanks to our patented backing that removes the need for additional adhesive. As long as the surface you’re applying Cling to is installed properly and there are no loose pieces, there will be no issue.
